Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse to join our team at Norfolk Public Schools. As a School Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing professional nursing care to students in a school setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing assessments and diagnosis for students
  • Administer medication to students as needed
  • Document student interactions, medication administration, and parent health concerns
  • Provide emergency care for students, staff, and guests during school hours
  • Initiate referrals to parents and school personnel for intervention, remediation, and follow-through
  • Participate in students' Individualized Education Plan meetings as needed
  • Participate in the development and implementation of health plans as needed
  • Screen students for vision, hearing, scoliosis, growth, and other health concerns per Virginia School Health Guidelines
  • Report to schools per Department of Education and Norfolk Public Schools guidelines
Requirements
  • Current Virginia unrestricted Registered Nurse license
  • Current CPR certification required
  • Active Virginia Driver's License required
  • Bachelors of Science Nursing degree preferred
  • Medical/surgical nursing and/or pediatric experience preferred
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of successful experience required
  • Experience working in a school setting preferred
  • Experience working with students with disabilities preferred
  • Personal characteristics conducive to working effectively with students, teachers, school personnel, community groups, and parents required
  • Reliable transportation required
Working Conditions

This position requires standing, lifting, walking up and down corridors, walking up and down stairs, hearing, seeing, balancing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, grasping, bending, pushing, reaching, frequent sedentary tasks, and the ability to perform CPR.

Benefits

In addition to the base salary, this position is eligible for an advanced degree stipend. The stipend details are as follows:

  • Master's Degree: $3,500/Year
  • Master's Degree + 30 Hours: $5,400/Year
  • Doctoral Degree: $7,800/Year
