Chief Financial Officer Job Description

BerryDunn has partnered with Fulcrum Associates, a highly regarded family-owned construction management organization, to find a Chief Financial Officer who can lead the company's financial health, stability, and growth. Founded in 1989, Fulcrum has become a major player in the regional construction industry, delivering complex projects under challenging circumstances and aggressive timelines.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance, with experience in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting, financial reporting, financial analysis, risk management, investment decisions, capital structure, and negotiating with external partners. They will also have excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a dynamic environment, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver fact-based information about the organization's economics.
  • Promote a culture of innovation that supports sustainable growth.
  • Identify and analyze financial and operational risks.
  • Supervise the Office Manager and Accounting Team.
  • Safeguard accurate and timely financial statements.
  • Ensure staff compliance with accounting principles and standards.
  • Conduct comprehensive annual evaluations of employee performance.
  • Engage in regular check-ins with staff to discuss progress and provide feedback.
  • Assure adherence to GAAP.
  • Establish and manage Accounting Department policies and procedures.
  • Produce and analyze timely monthly financial reports.
  • Identify and report areas of efficiency and inefficiency.
  • Assist project managers with monthly project billings.
  • Review and analyze monthly project status with project management.
  • Manage the usefulness and reliability of project management software.
  • Strategic and tactical cash and income planning, forecasting, and investing.
  • Prepare and oversee annual audits.
  • Oversee and execute tax strategies with the aid of ownership and outside CPA firm.
  • Manage insurance renewals for property, workers compensation, general liability, and vehicles.
  • Act as a trusted liaison between Fulcrum and its partners.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, with 5-10 years' experience in project or construction management.
  • Successful track record of excellent financial management with increasing responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of database and accounting computer application systems, ideally with Sage 300 for Construction and Procore Project Management for Construction.
  • Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
