Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Laboratory Assistant to join our team in the Histology Laboratory within the Division of Surgical Pathology at the Department of Pathology. This role involves working under the direct guidance of experienced Histology Technologists and the Clinical Laboratory Manager, while also receiving functional oversight from senior laboratory personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Assisting with the preparation of slides for microscopic examination, including the cover slipping process.
- Organizing and managing documentation associated with laboratory samples.
- Handling the packing, unpacking, sorting, and transportation of samples and slides to designated areas.
- Supporting general laboratory operations and performing routine cleaning and maintenance of laboratory spaces and equipment.
- Managing the receipt of tissue cassettes and the dispatch of blocks and slides.
- Utilizing Beaker barcode scanning for tracking purposes.
- Providing customer service support, including responding to inquiries and resolving issues from departmental staff and pathologists.
- Numerically organizing and filing paraffin blocks.
- Assisting with the daily upkeep and reagent updates on staining and processing machinery.
- Sorting slides by case and ensuring accurate delivery to the appropriate scanning or pathologist.
- Performing additional duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a High School diploma or equivalent (GED). While certification or vocational training may be advantageous, it is not mandatory.
