Position Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) is tasked with employing the nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation, and evaluation—to deliver personalized nursing care to residents. This role involves collaboration with residents, families, and interdisciplinary colleagues, including healthcare providers, to plan, implement, and assess care.

The RN demonstrates proficiency and operates within the full scope of nursing knowledge, adhering to age and population-specific standards relevant to their clinical setting. Responsibilities include caring for residents throughout all stages of preventive care, health maintenance, diagnosis, and treatment, along with coordinating care, conducting resident assessments, providing education, and executing various nursing interventions.

Additionally, the RN may assume the role of charge nurse, delegating appropriate tasks to licensed and unlicensed assistive personnel, ensuring tasks align with job descriptions, skill sets, resident care needs, and the competence level of the delegate.

Support and guidance will be provided to delegates to ensure safe and reliable administration of resident care and to address any care and service concerns.

This position operates within the scopes and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules applicable to the state of practice and licensure. The Sanford Professional Nursing Practice acknowledges the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements, as published by the American Nurses Association, as the foundation for nursing care delivery and professional conduct.

Qualifications:

Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program is preferred, including but not limited to, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). A Bachelor’s Degree in nursing is preferred.

Must hold an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice occurs and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. It is essential to obtain and maintain required department-specific competencies and certifications.
