Position Overview

The PreOp/PACU Registered Nurse plays a crucial role in the comprehensive nursing care of patients undergoing surgical procedures. This includes facilitating education that empowers patients to actively participate in their recovery journey.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in or perform under medical supervision various diagnostic and therapeutic tasks, including medication administration, IV initiation, and preparation of patients for surgical interventions.
  • Utilize the nursing process effectively to ensure all pre-operative care requirements are met, encompassing assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Document patient health histories and identify any abnormal conditions for physician review.
  • Conduct preoperative education sessions efficiently.
  • Maintain awareness of potential anesthesia-related complications and demonstrate knowledge of appropriate interventions.
  • Operate and maintain emergency medical equipment as needed.
  • Execute resuscitation procedures when required.
  • Ensure the emotional and physical comfort and safety of patients throughout their care.
  • Guide patients in self-care, rehabilitation, health education, and post-operative wound management.
  • Accurately document clinical records and manage necessary paperwork.
  • Adhere to infection control policies when handling hazardous materials.
  • Maintain a narcotics log as per regulations.
  • Review patient charts for completeness and ensure all necessary documentation is signed prior to surgery.
  • Practice aseptic techniques during IV starts, dressing changes, and wound care.
  • Coordinate follow-up appointments for patients as needed.
  • Conduct daily inventory checks of emergency equipment.
  • Collaborate effectively as a member of the surgical team.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree from an accredited Registered Nursing program.
  • Proven knowledge of surgical center protocols and procedures.
  • Ability to apply and adapt professional nursing principles and techniques.
  • Current Colorado Registered Nurse license in good standing.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is preferred.
  • Demonstrated competencies in job knowledge, communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and confidentiality.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel to various locations.
Physical Requirements
  • The work environment is typical of a medical office, requiring the ability to focus amidst various distractions.
  • Job duties may require prolonged periods of standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
  • Regularly assist patients with mobility and transfers, ensuring safety and comfort.
