JOB SUMMARY:

The Lead Project Coordinator is tasked with identifying, pursuing, and overseeing business development initiatives to enhance profitability for McFarlane Mfg. Co., Inc.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Drive business expansion opportunities, cultivate relationships, review all preliminary documents, conduct material takeoffs, gather pricing for all components, prepare cost estimates, manage projects collaboratively, and oversee the Structural Estimating & Project Management Team.


Specifically:
  • Negotiate pricing, scheduling, and contract expectations with clients and subcontractors.
  • Execute takeoffs, prepare estimates/proposals, bid, schedule, and manage projects in a collaborative environment.
  • Ensure the accuracy of cost estimates (material, labor) in accordance with project scope and construction drawings.
  • Maintain compliance with estimating standards (material, labor).
  • Implement and uphold schedules and expectations with production, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Facilitate timely negotiations of NOC's and change orders.
  • Coordinate deliveries according to client expectations.
  • Assist with, review, and reconcile invoicing and billing.
  • Collaborate with the Production Control Team to manage project operations.
  • Oversee team budget and personnel, including Project Management and Estimating.
  • Develop the Structural Steel Business by pursuing opportunities in new market sectors and nurturing relationships with new and long-term clients, engineers, and architects.
  • Supervise all projects concerning schedule, client needs (Quality, Price, Delivery, Service), and profit margins.
  • Manage team training on operational systems.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Regular attendance is a critical function of this role.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Capacity to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects and internal/external contacts.
  • Ability to interpret various types of project drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Understanding of design and construction drawings to verify the scope of work for quoting.
  • Proficient in mathematics.
  • Adaptable, with the ability to work additional hours as necessary to meet deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, capable of maintaining orderly files of all electronic correspondence, deliverables, and specifications.
  • Proficient with MS Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to perform accurate take-offs and manage change orders.
  • Proactive in soliciting bid invitations.

Preferred:
  • Proficient with Bluebeam, Tekla PowerFab, and MS Office.
  • Experience with digital takeoff techniques.
  • Tech-savvy regarding tools and techniques to enhance individual efforts and cross-functional workflow.
  • Experience working with or at a steel fabricator in Wisconsin or neighboring states.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management preferred, with a minimum of a 2-year technical degree in a related field. A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in estimating/project management of structural steel construction projects, preferably working with Regional (South/Central WI, Northern IL) General Contractors.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Proper PPE must be worn while in the shop. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, and hear; frequently required to sit; use hands; reach with hands and arms; and utilize computer equipment. Close vision and distance vision are required. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Demonstrates accountability for all safety procedures, leading by example.
