THE POSITION

Sheriff's Security Officers support sworn personnel in maintaining security and safeguarding County properties and public agency facilities against fire, theft, vandalism, and trespassing. These roles are non-peace officer positions.

Officers are required to carry a firearm and must exercise independent judgment to determine when counseling, admonition, or law enforcement intervention is necessary, responding to or reporting situations accordingly.

The eligible list established from this recruitment will be utilized to fill both full-time and part-time regular, limited-term, or extra-help positions as vacancies arise throughout the County.

Essential Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Depending on the assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Monitoring fixed posts or perimeters of facilities to detect or prevent harmful actions by individuals or groups.
  • Intervening to halt harmful actions, conducting searches for weapons or contraband, and detaining individuals for further investigation or arrest when warranted.
  • Guiding visitors to appropriate personnel and services within a facility.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High school graduation or completion of an acceptable General Education Development Test (GED).
  • Completion of a POST course on PC 832 (arrest and firearms training) within six months of appointment, or completion of a basic law enforcement academy may substitute for this requirement.
  • A valid Class C California driver's license is mandatory.
BACKGROUND: A Peace Officer Standard & Training (POST) background investigation is required prior to employment.

SELECTION PROCESS
Qualified applicants may be invited for further examination based on application documents. The selection process may include application screening, mandatory information meetings, supplemental questionnaires, written or practical exams, oral board exams, or a combination thereof. A minimum score of 70% is required to advance in the selection process.
