Position Overview:
Lincoln County is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time Heavy Equipment Mechanic role within the Highway Department. This position entails working 10-hour shifts over four days each week, with opportunities for overtime.

Job Responsibilities:
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will perform a variety of essential functions, including:
  • Diagnosing issues and executing repairs on a fleet of trucks and construction equipment, which encompasses engine overhauls, drive train repairs, electrical and hydraulic system troubleshooting, and welding tasks.
  • Outfitting and maintaining County vehicles and equipment, conducting major repairs on components such as clutches, water pumps, fuel pumps, ignition systems, and more. This includes performing safety checks, fluid checks, and routine maintenance tasks.
  • Carrying out body work, including gas and electrical welding, painting, and metal fabrication as part of repair assignments.
  • Performing various automotive shop tasks and maintaining cleanliness in and around the shop facilities.
  • Keeping accurate records and generating reports as necessary.
  • Being available for call-outs during winter snow and ice removal, as well as other emergency situations.
  • Participating in meetings, educational seminars, and training sessions as required.
  • Prioritizing safety in all workplace activities and adhering to safety protocols.
  • Completing additional duties as assigned that align with the responsibilities and skill requirements of the position.

Qualifications:
To be eligible for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
  • A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • An Associate's Degree in Diesel Mechanics or a related field, along with a minimum of two years of experience in heavy truck and off-road equipment repair, or a combination of education and experience that is deemed equivalent.
  • Experience in automotive and small engine maintenance and repair.
  • Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, and computer-controlled hydraulic systems.
  • Experience in performing service calls.
  • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License with air brakes, combination, and tank endorsements.

Compensation:
This is a full-time, hourly position with a starting wage of $22.85 per hour. An additional $2.00 per hour will be awarded to employees who meet the CDL requirements.

The WRS is recognized as one of the best-funded and managed public pension systems in the nation, with employees contributing 6.9% and Lincoln County matching this contribution at 100% each pay period.
