FACILITIES ENGINEER

The Facilities Engineering team at Starbase is tasked with the design, enhancement, and upkeep of SpaceX's facilities in Starbase, TX. This position requires a collaborative spirit, as the environment is dynamic and fast-paced, with evolving needs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to identify and resolve challenges through effective communication with team members, various departments, end-users, and external vendors. You will collaborate with construction managers, engineers, and internal stakeholders to achieve our objectives. This role offers the chance to implement meaningful improvements and oversee projects from inception to completion, ensuring that Starbase remains an exceptional place for living, working, manufacturing, and launching rockets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a valued member of our team, you can expect to:

  • Collaborate with the facilities team and end-users to streamline post-construction operations and maintenance tasks.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders for efficient building operations and maintenance.
  • Draft and manage construction contracts with subcontractors across various disciplines until project completion.
  • Conduct project control activities, including scheduling, budgeting, and cost management.
  • Oversee all facets of multi-discipline construction projects on-site.
  • Engage with contractors, fabricators, owners, and clients.
  • Address design and construction conflicts promptly in the field.
  • Manage the entire project lifecycle to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery while meeting customer expectations.
  • Organize tools and documentation related to our construction initiatives.
  • Provide preliminary budget estimates based on project scope.
  • Solicit proposals from architects, engineers, and contractors; assign contracts upon proposal review.
  • Establish final project costs and timelines, implementing necessary controls to manage budget, schedule, and scope.
  • Facilitate necessary city, county, and governmental approvals.
  • Coordinate project execution and monitor progress.
  • Supervise night shift contractors as project demands dictate.
  • Embrace new projects as business needs arise.
  • Engage in a dynamic role focused on designing and constructing infrastructure, housing, amenities, and community spaces for the future of our program.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, civil, structural engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in engineering, project management, construction management, facilities management, or related fields through internships or professional roles.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Proficient in using data and analysis for informed decision-making.
  • Possession of a Professional Engineering (PE) or Structural Engineering (SE) license.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as AISC, ACI code 318, ASCE 7, and IBC.
  • Experience in creating structural detail drawings using AutoCAD, Revit, NX, Solidworks, or similar software.
  • Knowledge of analysis design programs like RISA, ETABS, SAP2000, S-Concrete, ANSYS, or FEMAP.
  • Ability to conduct trade studies and provide clear recommendations based on engineering principles.
  • Experience in fast-paced engineering environments requiring innovative problem-solving under tight constraints.
  • Demonstrated excellence in competitive academic or professional settings.
  • Hands-on experience in hardware development or a strong interest in contributing to practical engineering solutions.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to perform physical work in various environmental conditions.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, including weekends and holidays as necessary.
  • Capability to maintain focus in hazardous environments while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted.
