Objective of the Role

The primary aim of this role is to support the Activities Director in executing a comprehensive activity program tailored to fulfill the needs of residents. This includes assisting in the planning, organization, implementation, and assessment of various recreational, social, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual activities, in alignment with facility policies and individual care plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitates both individual and group activities that cater to the preferences and needs of residents.
  • Completes the activity section of resident assessments and makes necessary updates to the program.
  • Conducts interviews with residents and their families to gather insights on activity preferences.
  • Coordinates and assists residents in accessing activity venues within the facility.
  • Helps organize scheduled activities aimed at enhancing the physical, social, and mental health of residents.
  • Records attendance for resident activity programs and ensures that all documentation is detailed and reflective of the services provided.
  • Monitors resident mood and engagement levels during activities, reporting any notable changes to the Activities Director.
  • Assists in delivering in-room activity programs for residents who benefit from personalized visits.
  • Plans and coordinates offsite excursions and transportation logistics as required.
  • Collaborates with other departments to ensure seamless execution of daily activities.
  • Utilizes resident assessment protocols to determine the necessity of care planning for activity-related concerns.

  • May encounter risks such as falls, burns from equipment, and exposure to various odors throughout the day; may also experience reactions to dust, tobacco smoke, disinfectants, and other airborne irritants.
  • Potential exposure to infectious materials, diseases, and conditions including AIDS, Coronavirus, Hepatitis B, and Tuberculosis.
  • May interact with emotionally distressed residents, family members, visitors, or staff.
  • Work is conducted in all interior areas of the facility, with regulated heating and lighting.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and navigate stairs; occasionally move equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift overhead, and perform other common physical tasks as required.
  • Extended periods of standing and walking are necessary.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, write clearly, enter data into a computer, and comprehend written and verbal information.
  • Regularly lift and carry up to 35 pounds; occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent standing and walking, simple grasping, fine motor skills, near and far vision, and the ability to hear and speak clearly are essential.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Education: A high school diploma or GED, or equivalent is required.

Experience: Prior experience in a similar role is preferred.

Certification/License: Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) in good standing is preferred. CPR certification is also desirable.
