Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Teacher - Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program Specialist to join our team at Portland Public Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing academic and communication/language intervention to Deaf or Hard of Hearing students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement instructional programs to enhance students' access in the general classroom setting.
  • Collaborate with families, community, and county/school district personnel to develop and implement instructional programs.
  • Provide trainings, consultation, and/or coaching about deafness, hearing abilities, and its impact on learning.
  • Write lesson plans that can be clearly understood and used by teachers and/or substitutes.
  • Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Oregon Teaching License with endorsement in Special Education: Deaf and Hard of Hearing, or eligible for a License of Conditional Assignment with Deaf and Hard of Hearing endorsement.
  • Experience teaching students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
  • Fluency in ASL preferred.
  • Courseswork, professional development, or training in Listening and Spoken Language strategies preferred.
