Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Technician III

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a highly skilled Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Technician III to join its team in Aransas Pass, Texas. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with engineers, surveyors, project managers, and utility owners to identify utility conflicts using advanced technologies, including electromagnetic line locators, ground-penetrating radar, GPS, conventional survey, and vacuum excavation.

Responsibilities:
  • Interpret utility records, as-built/survey drawings, and highway design plans to identify utility information, including type, owner, size, access points, and location.
  • Supervise and direct the placement of basic maintenance of traffic devices.
  • Adhere to the company's Health and Safety program and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Operate designating vehicles and vacuum excavation trucks.
  • Record information for test holes and fill out field books legibly.
  • Call One-Call tickets and coordinate survey work related to SUE.
  • Train junior crew members and represent Colliers Engineering & Design in the field.
  • Record pole data, complete field sketches, and maintain equipment and vehicles.
  • Utilize multi-frequency pipe and cable locators and single-frequency induction devices.
  • Safely use jackhammers on various pavement and surface types.
  • Understand proper tamping procedures and correctly patch asphalt and concrete.
  • Correctly use and maintain the concrete saw and air and water lance to expose underground utilities.
  • Act as a crew leader, direct SUE tasks, and lead tailgate safety meetings.
  • Develop and implement Maintenance of Traffic signage at each site and communicate with clients and utility representatives.
  • Coordinate with SUE, Survey, and CADD staff for SUE-related tasks and perform QA/QC on designated utilities and test holes.
  • Train SUE Investigators I & II on proper designating and test hole techniques and operate the GPR proficiently.
  • Troubleshoot issues with designating equipment and perform minor repairs.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 5-8+ years of experience in SUE, utility design, and test holes.
  • Valid Driver's License with a consistent Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • OSHA 10-hour certification.
  • CPR certification.
  • DOT Driver's Qualification.
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical with a minimum one-year clearance and a Fit For Duty physical.
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
  • Occasional travel required, with the ability to drive for long periods and travel via train or airplane.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English for job-related communications and verbal instructions.
