Position Overview:
The Lead Assembly Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the Production Supervisor by overseeing the daily activities of team members involved in manufacturing processes. This position requires a solid understanding of equipment and process specifications.

The lead technician will provide assistance to production staff regarding engineering challenges and will facilitate resolutions through collaboration with engineering and materials teams.

This role demands a strong problem-solving ability to navigate complex assembly tasks, and the individual must thrive both as a team player and independently within a structured team environment.

The lead technician should be adept at assembling various configurations and fabricated components, demonstrating initiative and a commitment to mastering all aspects of production processes.

Reporting Structure:
This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute assembly operations on all products with precision and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Conduct in-process quality inspections for team members.
  • Communicate sensitive employee information to the supervisor with integrity.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures as outlined in the Employment Manual.
  • Provide technical guidance and training on production best practices, aiming to eliminate non-value-added activities and relay process improvement ideas to engineering.
  • Address non-conformances with team members and ensure accountability.
  • Identify training needs for production associates and communicate them to the Trainer and Supervisor.
  • Alert the Production Supervisor immediately regarding any issues that may impact the daily production schedule.
  • Validate existing preventative maintenance procedures and suggest enhancements.
  • Enhance 5S, health and safety, and lean flow processes on the production floor.
  • Interpret schematic drawings, diagrams, blueprints, specifications, work orders, or reports to determine material requirements or assembly instructions.
  • Utilize various hand tools to assemble units according to specifications, following established manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and contribute to improvements.
  • Support production leads as necessary or during interim periods.
Performance Expectations:
  • Quality Workmanship - Achieve 0% defects.
  • Contribute to the team's goal of on-time delivery (OTD) of 99.55% or better.
  • Enhance quality ratings by minimizing errors in workmanship and developing new processes to prevent mistakes.
  • Maintain J-Standard Certification.
  • Limit unscheduled PTO to less than 7% per month.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED or Associate's Degree.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in electrical assembly.
  • Familiarity with Quality Management Systems such as ISO 9001B, AS9100, and AS9102.
  • Solder Certifications IPC, J-STD-001, and/or other IPC-610/620 certifications (CIT required).
  • Understanding of lean, six sigma, and 5S methodologies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Possess J-STD Certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electrical assembly components and related wiring materials.
  • Proficient soldering skills.
  • Strong reading comprehension abilities.
  • Manual dexterity to efficiently manipulate and assemble objects.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Commitment to meeting quality, on-time delivery, and revenue objectives.
