Position Summary:
The Lead Technician for Landing Gear Operations is responsible for the comprehensive overhaul, repair, and inspection of aircraft landing gear components, ensuring compliance with safety regulations set forth by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This role encompasses supervisory duties, overseeing a team of technicians while fulfilling essential maintenance responsibilities.
Reporting Structure:
This position reports directly to the Director of Maintenance.
Supervisory Duties:
- Mentors and trains both existing and new team members.
- Manages the daily operations and workflow within the department.
- Provides timely and constructive feedback on performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts training assessments for the Director of Maintenance and VP of Operations to identify training needs for technicians.
- Offers technical support and guidance to team members.
- Reports on the status of open work orders to the Director of Maintenance.
- Assists technicians in meeting project deadlines.
- Allocates and reallocates tasks to technicians based on operational requirements.
- Ensures adherence to FAA, EASA, and customer maintenance guidelines.
- Maintains compliance with safety protocols during maintenance activities.
- Participates in the evaluation process for assigned employees.
- Performs routine maintenance on aircraft components.
- Keeps accurate records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and related documentation.
- Completes other relevant duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- In-depth knowledge of aircraft components, systems, and mechanics.
- Familiarity with tools and testing methods for aircraft functionality.
- Ability to interpret and follow technical manuals to resolve mechanical issues.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software for record-keeping.
- Detail-oriented with a strong mechanical aptitude.
- Exhibits high-quality workmanship.
- Capable of performing under pressure.
- Ability to conduct basic inspections and repairs.
- Willingness to learn new repair techniques and skills.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding English.
- Effective verbal communication skills for discussing equipment issues and completing reports.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
- Minimum of 5 years in aviation maintenance with a valid A&P license.
- Experience in an FAA Part-145 MRO environment is advantageous but not required.
- Familiarity with OEM specifications, manuals, and technical drawings is preferred.
- Experience using precision measuring instruments.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in various positions, including standing, kneeling, and lying down.
- Capable of working on scaffolding or ladders.
- Must be able to lift and maneuver objects weighing up to 70 pounds.
- Manual dexterity and physical strength to operate tools and make repairs.
- Visual acuity for inspecting equipment and identifying defects.
- Ability to hear and assess sounds to determine aircraft functionality.
