Position Overview:
This role involves teaching non-credit science courses aimed at enhancing students' academic readiness for higher education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging academic lessons tailored to specific grade levels, ensuring students are well-prepared for their future educational endeavors.
- Facilitate the integration of essential reading and writing skills within the curriculum.
- Support students in developing effective study habits, time management skills, and test-taking strategies.
- Encourage students to build confidence in their subject knowledge while fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Create a supportive learning atmosphere that inspires students to pursue self-improvement and academic excellence.
- Guide students in honing their academic skills in preparation for state-mandated assessments.
- Collaborate with fellow educators to design and implement cohesive lesson plans that reflect thematic teaching approaches.
- Ensure timely submission of lesson plans in compliance with institutional guidelines.
- Contribute to the development and execution of the GEAR UP Curriculum aligned with New Jersey's Common Core Standards.
- Maintain precise academic records and documentation.
- Assist in the design and evaluation of standardized diagnostic and placement assessments as required.
Qualifications:
Education:
A Bachelor's Degree in a Science discipline or a closely related field is required; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered in limited circumstances.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of relevant teaching experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proven ability to engage with students from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of knowledge.
- Strong communication skills to effectively convey concepts in both individual and small group settings.
- Intermediate computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and educational software.
- Familiarity with research strategies for information gathering.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills to foster productive relationships with colleagues.
- Ability to facilitate discussions and learning experiences in various instructional environments.
- Fluency in a second language may be beneficial.
- Potential requirement for discipline-specific skills assessments.
- Willingness to travel to different educational sites as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
Local travel to educational centers may be necessary. Availability for daytime and weekend sessions is required.
