Job Summary: As a Medical Support Specialist at Kaiser Permanente, you will provide critical support to healthcare providers and nurses during patient care encounters. Your responsibilities will include collecting clinical information, completing point-of-care testing, ensuring exam rooms are clean and stocked, and assisting practitioners with examinations and procedures. You will also administer prescribed medications within your scope, perform follow-up care as instructed, and schedule follow-up appointments as ordered. Additionally, you will resolve patient concerns promptly and maintain departmental quality improvement standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to Kaiser Permanente policies and procedures, principles of responsibilities, and applicable local, state, and federal laws.
  • Utilize effective communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with patients and members of the healthcare team.
  • Complete patient intake, including vital signs, height, weight, and hearing and vision screening, as indicated.
  • Identify care gaps and schedule care gap visits/procedures, as indicated.
  • Prepare consent, school, and work forms for provider review and signature.
  • Ensure exam rooms are clean and stocked with essential supplies and equipment for patient visits/procedures.
  • Complete point-of-care testing.
  • Administer in-scope immunizations and medications, as ordered, and provide patients with the most recent Vaccine Information Statement (VIS).
  • Assist practitioners with examinations, including positioning and draping the patient, passing instruments in a sterile manner, and assisting with minor procedures.
  • Document patient care and education in the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in Unit-Based Team (UBT) and staff meetings, department-specific education, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other in-scope duties as assigned.
