Palliative Care RN Coordinator Job Description

OU Health is seeking a skilled Palliative Care RN Coordinator to join our team. As a Palliative Care RN Coordinator, you will play a vital role in providing professional nursing-related healthcare in a medical specialty. You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care in a designated patient population or specialty.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist physician during examinations as needed, ensuring all information is available to the physician.
  • Make follow-up patient appointments or follow up on patient appointments, answering routine questions from patients, family, etc.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide efficient quality patient care, evaluating and improving teaching and nursing practices and recommending modifications.
  • Provide educational information to patients, family, etc.
  • Assess and monitor patient response to procedures and treatments, reporting patient condition and reaction to tests, drugs, treatments, and any significant incidents to the physician.
  • Counsel patients and family about death, side effects of medication, therapy, etc.
  • Participate in and contribute to research activities related to the area of specialization, participating in conferences pertaining to the research area.
Requirements:
  • Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact RN License (eNLC).
  • Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.
  • 12 months related experience in the designated specialty, pediatric nursing experience, ideally in an acute care setting or in a setting with patients who have chronic, complex needs.
  • Palliative care or hospice experience can be considered in lieu of pediatric experience.
