Job Overview

Riveon Mental Health and Recovery is seeking a dedicated Prevention Educator/Specialist to serve as a Youth Mentor within the Project AMP (Amplifying Our Futures) initiative.

Position Summary:
The Prevention Educator/Prevention Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering routine Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) prevention services. This includes, but is not limited to, providing educational resources, identifying problems, and making appropriate referrals. The individual will act as a youth mentor, focusing on adolescents and young adults who may be at risk for substance use issues.

The prevention services offered encompass a variety of programs such as Botvin Lifeskills, Building Blocks, Eduvention Juvenile Diversion, Carevention Family Intervention, Comprehensive School Prevention, Drug-Free Workplace Safety Programs, HIV/AIDS Prevention, Parent to Parent educational support, Staff and Parent trainings, and Teen Support Groups.

Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver prevention services in community and educational settings.
- Maintain accurate records of services provided in a prevention log.
- Complete and submit all necessary reports and billing statements for each service rendered.
- Administer and compile outcome and satisfaction surveys.
- Follow up with referral sources after each service.
- Develop and adapt prevention curricula to meet community needs.
- Represent the agency at community events and health/wellness fairs.
- Assist treatment programs as needed.
- Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) data collection and implement corrective actions as required.
- Engage in monthly Utilization Review and Peer Review Programs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualities of a Project AMP Youth Mentor:
- A strong commitment to the project and a willingness to explore various pathways to substance use prevention and recovery.
- An open-minded approach to different recovery strategies, maintaining a nonjudgmental attitude when working with youth.
- A genuine desire to assist youth in pursuing positive life experiences distinct from those associated with substance use disorders.

Qualifications:
- Must adhere to the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board's Code of Ethics and demonstrate an understanding of addiction as a disease.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with agency staff, external contacts, and a diverse clientele.
- Capability to work independently and as part of a team to foster a supportive environment for clients.
- Excellent verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills are essential.
- Proficient computer skills are required.

Experience:
- A minimum of one year of experience in addiction prevention or related work with youth and/or families is preferred.
- Lived experience or personal impact from addiction is highly valued.

Educational Background:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required; an Associate Degree or higher is preferred.

Certification:
- Registered Applicant endorsement or OCSPA with the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board is required; OCPSI or higher credential is preferred.
- If Registered Applicant, must obtain OCPSA Prevention certification within two years of employment.

Travel Requirements: Moderate travel, primarily local.

Work Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours per week, with some evenings and occasional weekends required.

Compensation: Salary commensurate with licensure and experience.
