Position Overview

Riveon Mental Health and Recovery is seeking a dedicated Prevention Educator/Specialist to fulfill the role of a Project AMP (Amplifying Our Futures) Youth Mentor.

Role Summary:
The Prevention Educator/Prevention Specialist will deliver essential Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) prevention services. This includes, but is not limited to, information dissemination, educational outreach, identification of issues, and referral services. The individual will serve as a youth mentor within the framework of Project AMP, which targets adolescents and young adults facing risk factors associated with substance use.

The prevention services provided by Riveon encompass various programs such as Botvin Lifeskills, Building Blocks, Eduvention Juvenile Diversion, Carevention Family Intervention, Comprehensive School Prevention, Drug-Free Workplace Safety Programs, HIV/AIDS Prevention, Parent to Parent educational support, Staff and Parent trainings, and Teen Support Groups.

Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver prevention services in both community and educational settings.
- Maintain accurate records of services provided in a prevention log.
- Complete and submit all necessary reports and billing statements for each service rendered.
- Administer and compile outcome and satisfaction surveys.
- Engage with referral sources post-service delivery.
- Tailor prevention curricula to align with community needs.
- Represent the agency at community events and health/wellness fairs.
- Support treatment programs as needed.
- Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) data collection and implement corrective actions as assigned.
- Attend monthly Utilization Review and Peer Review Programs.
- Perform additional duties as required.

- A strong commitment to the project and a willingness to explore various pathways to substance use prevention and recovery.
- An open-minded approach to understanding how different strategies can be effective for different individuals.
- A nonjudgmental attitude when engaging with youth and discussing recovery options.
- A genuine desire to assist youth in pursuing diverse life experiences beyond those linked to substance use disorders.

Qualifications:
- Must comply with the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board's Code of Ethics and demonstrate an understanding of addiction as a chronic illness.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with agency staff, external contacts, and a diverse clientele.
- Capability to work independently and as part of a team to foster a supportive environment for clients.
- Excellent verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills are essential.
- Proficiency in computer skills is required.

Experience:
- A minimum of one year of experience in addiction prevention or related fields involving youth and/or families is preferred.
- Personal experience or being affected by addiction in one's life, family, or relationships is necessary.

Educational Background:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent is required; an Associate Degree or higher is preferred.

Certification:
- Registered Applicant endorsement or OCSPA with the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board is required. OCPSI or higher credential is preferred.
- If a Registered Applicant, the OCPSA Prevention certification must be obtained within two years of employment.

Travel Requirements: Moderate travel, primarily local.

Work Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours per week. Some evenings and occasional weekends may be necessary.

Compensation: Salary will be commensurate with licensure and experience.
