About the Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Lighting Controls Designer to join our Property & Buildings - Specialty Services Lighting Design Group in Los Angeles, CA. This is a full-time position providing technical and design support for project designers with the production of lighting projects.

Your Impact
  • Provide technical support for project designers with the production of lighting projects.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with internal project discipline team members and external equipment vendors and manufacturers.
  • Work within multi-discipline project teams to develop drawing and specification documents for issuance to architects, contractors, and building owners.
  • Assist with executing controls design of complex projects.
  • Assist with performing construction administration tasks.
  • Assist with performing basic professional lighting design work relating to conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, layout, and systems to determine conformance with applicable standards and codes.
  • Assist with basic technical assistance on various design, installation, and integration issues relating to creating state-of-the-art lighting design that is innovative and inspiring, developing luminaire and controls specifics, applying daylighting/harvesting, and creating spaces that impact building capabilities, ambiance, safety, and security.
  • Assist with generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation and specifications using electronic systems, artistic renderings, drawings, diagrams, illustrations, spreadsheets, and reports.
  • Perform lighting calculations and analysis and use results to inform project decisions.
  • Document lighting layouts and controls design in Revit and/or CADD.
  • Assist in lighting mock-ups and design presentations.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Lighting Design, Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Interior Design, Theater Production Design, or a closely related discipline.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Familiarity with process and concepts for sustainable lighting strategies, principles, and practices.
  • Strong creative skills with an ability to balance lighting aesthetics and client desires with practical concerns.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Attention to detail, highly organized, self-starter.
  • Basic proficiency with office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Proficiency with discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD or Revit, Microsoft 365, Bluebeam).
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of energy codes and LEED.
  • Prior work with lighting design or related design firm.
  • Experience in designing control systems for high-performing, commercial, or industrial buildings. Knowledge of DMX, DALI, PoE systems design.
  • A member of and/or actively participates in local professional practice organizations.
Compensation and Benefits

WSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits including medical, dental, vision, disability, life, and retirement savings focused on providing health and financial stability throughout the employee's career.

Expected Salary: $78,500 - $103,100
