Lighting Designer/Programmer & Technician

Location:
Various locations across the United States

Position Overview:


The Lighting Designer/Programmer & Technician will collaborate with the Technical Production Manager to oversee all aspects of lighting design, programming, and system requirements for each event or production.

Programming may involve working with ETC, grandMA, or other control consoles.

This role ensures that all lighting fixtures are accurately focused, and that the lighting system operates effectively throughout the duration of the performances. The technician will also assist in designing lighting systems such as wireless DMX or LED Pixels.

Previous experience as a lighting technician with a strong understanding of moving light maintenance is essential. Experience in rock-and-roll lighting or with a Performing Arts Center that has a high turnover rate is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Support all lighting-related aspects of productions and installations, ensuring smooth, efficient, and safe operations.

2. Adhere to installation and strike schedules as directed by the Technical Production Manager.

3. Foster effective working relationships with vendors, colleagues, and clients.

4. Comply with RWS technical site safety protocols to meet industry standards (e.g., OSHA, Maritime OSHA, ETSI, etc.).

5. Understand that the role requires extensive travel or relocation, with evening and weekend commitments based on production schedules.

6. Demonstrate a willingness to learn daily operations from the Technical Production Manager and other RWS staff.

7. Attend daily safety briefings.

8. Possess knowledge of large format spectacle-driven entertainment.

9. Be skilled in the use of general hand and power tools.

10. Have a strong understanding of electrical systems.

11. Be capable of lifting and carrying over 50 pounds.


12. Be able to work at heights of up to 40 feet for extended periods with minimal breaks.

Experience with counterbalance forklifts, telehandlers, and boom lifts is a plus.

Overnight shifts may be necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. A minimum of 2 years of professional lighting experience in the entertainment industry, ideally with design responsibilities.

2. Basic understanding of all technical components related to lighting production, design, and installation.

3. Proficiency with power tools, ladders, lifts, and electrical systems.

4. Ability to analyze situations and make informed decisions.


5. Capacity to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and work effectively under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Exceptional attention to detail, safety awareness, and strong analytical and communication skills are essential.


6. A proactive attitude with a willingness to engage in hands-on work as a collaborative team member.

Ability to work independently.

Strong work ethic and a passion for finding innovative solutions.

Commitment to result-driven, diligent work.

Familiarity with OSHA safety practices.
