MRI Technologist

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologists at The Orthopaedic Institute perform diagnostic MRI procedures according to established protocols or physician's special instructions. They communicate effectively with staff, physicians, patients, and their families, maintaining accurate patient and department records.
Key Responsibilities:- Properly identify and transport patients to and from the MRI scan room as needed.
- Interview and screen patients for contraindications, consulting with supervisor radiologists or attending physicians as needed.
- Perform MRI studies, obtaining patient history, explaining routine procedures, and addressing patient concerns.
- Prepare equipment and supplies as needed for each study, ensuring timely completion of emergency requests.
- Position patients, attach or adjust immobilization devices as needed, practicing sterile techniques and monitoring patient movement and positioning for safe handling.
- Adjust and operate MRI equipment to scan designated anatomical areas safely and effectively, following MRI safety protocols.
- Review and evaluate completed scans for quality, completeness, and type of test ordered, ensuring accurate diagnosis.
- Assist in reviewing and updating technical protocols and scheduling procedures for studies in the MRI department as requested.
- Provide assistance in training additional MRI staff as needed.
- Assist with maintenance and care of departmental facilities, equipment, and supplies, informing supervisors of items not in stock and alerting them to equipment malfunctions.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient documentation in a professional manner according to clinic and hospital protocols.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights, maintaining confidentiality of all medical, financial, or other sensitive materials and information.
- Graduate of a 24-month AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology.
- Typically requires 2 years of clinical experience.
- Excellent organization, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to multitask, work in a fast-paced environment, and manage time effectively.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and workflow management skills.
- Must be energetic, quality-driven, and a productive member of a cohesive team dedicated to providing optimum patient care.
- Must maintain a professional attitude towards patients and an excellent working relationship with fellow TOI staff and hospital personnel involved in delivering patient care.
- National certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required, along with licensure as an AART MRI registry or registry-eligible.
- Current certification in AHA or ARC Basic Life Support for healthcare providers is required.
