At Abraxas Youth & Family Services, we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Development Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our residential program, you will play a vital role in supporting the growth and development of at-risk youth.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly motivated and empathetic individual to work with our clients in a structured residential environment. As a Youth Development Specialist, you will be responsible for supervising and interacting with clients, observing and addressing client behavior, and documenting services in client files.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and interact with clients in a manner that ensures their safety and security.
  • Provide effective people security, including headcounts, room checks, and client movement.
  • Observe client behavior and intervene appropriately.
  • Process intakes and screen clients according to program policy.
  • Facilitate and document various groups and meetings.
  • Administer medication or supervise self-administration of medication when necessary.
  • Know and implement emergency procedures, including evacuation and CPR/first aid.
  • Support the Abraxas philosophy and mission, and promote the Seven Key Principles of care.
  • Demonstrate appropriate use of Safe Crisis Management techniques and skills.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Detention unit employees must have an Associate's degree or sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college or university.
  • At least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Driver's License.
  • Physical exam that includes TB and drug testing.
  • Criminal clearances (State Police, FBI, and State Child Abuse Clearances).
  • Satisfactory completion of background screening and applicable pre-employment checks.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
