Los Alamos Technical Associates (LATA) is seeking an Environmental Scientist I to join our Environmental Monitoring & Hydrology team in Carlsbad, New Mexico. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for conducting environmental monitoring and sampling activities in support of the Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) Monitoring Program at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) facility.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct sampling and monitoring activities in an underground mine and remote locations on surface
- Assist with coordination to install sample tubing in an underground mine
- Procure supplies and equipment and coordinate with the Cognizant Engineer on VOC systems
- Maintain and track calibration of measurement and test equipment
- Assist with records, training, plans, SOPs, JHAs, and management assessments
- Evaluate data and write reports for the VOC Program
- Participate in quality assurance (QA) audits/surveillances of the VOC Program and other groups
- Manage software as software custodian
- Perform sampling and analytical data verification and validation, database management, and preparation of reports
- Communicate with laboratory regarding results of samples, audits, performance testing, and implementation of changes
- Communicate with Permittees and regulatory agencies regarding the program
- Manage VOC records in accordance with Records Inventory and Disposition Schedule
- B.S. degree in a Science-related field, with 0-2 years of experience or an Associate's degree with four (4) years of experience or a High School Diploma or Equivalency with eight (8) years of relevant environmental experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software
- Attention to detail and initiative
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Highly motivated individual with excellent communication and teamwork skills
