Organization Overview:

REFORM Alliance is dedicated to significantly decreasing the number of individuals unjustly entangled in the criminal justice system, focusing initially on probation and parole reform. Our mission is to alter laws and policies while reshaping the national dialogue surrounding criminal justice reform.

Founded in response to the #FreeMeek movement, our Board comprises influential figures, including renowned artist Meek Mill, business leaders, and advocates for social change. Under the leadership of CEO Jessica Jackson, we strive to create impactful change.

Purpose:

The State Advocacy Coordinator will spearhead our bipartisan initiatives aimed at reforming the criminal justice system across Georgia. This role involves establishing a network, engaging various groups, and garnering their support to educate lawmakers on critical criminal justice issues.

The Coordinator will collaborate with REFORM staff and partners to track legislative developments, lead strategic campaign initiatives, mobilize community support, and build coalitions with grassroots organizations and policy experts.

Additionally, the Coordinator will connect with local elected officials and community leaders to advocate for and support criminal justice legislation. Candidates should possess strong writing abilities, excellent research skills, and the capacity to manage multiple deadlines. Individuals with personal experiences related to the criminal justice system or a strong commitment to bipartisan reform are particularly encouraged to apply. We seek team members who thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with REFORM staff to design and implement campaigns that drive engagement and action among key stakeholders regarding probation and parole policies.
  • Utilize analytical insights to enhance state-focused campaigns and maximize impact.
  • Expand and engage the supporter base for Probation and Parole REFORM in Georgia by fostering diverse networks of advocates.
  • Work with the Legal and Communication teams to effectively share real-life experiences from Georgia residents with the media and legislators.
  • Represent REFORM in various coalitions and cultivate relationships with existing and new partners to strengthen our campaign efforts.
  • Organize and facilitate community events, including roundtables and town halls, in collaboration with senior staff.
  • Build and maintain connections with local organizations, city officials, and community leaders throughout the state.
  • Co-manage the state Reformers program, including legislative training and mobilization efforts.
  • Travel as necessary for campaign-related activities and team gatherings.

Qualifications:

In this role, you should be a strategic thinker with strong organizational skills.

  • Familiarity with local, state, or federal legislative processes, ideally in Georgia.
  • Communications experience, particularly in earned media and digital strategies.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with coalition partners and stakeholders.

Additional Skills:

The following skills are not prerequisites but will be beneficial for candidates to learn during onboarding:

  • Proficiency in online organizing tools for managing campaigns.
  • Experience with CRM systems such as Salesforce.
