Job Title: Instrumentation Technician

TAMKO is seeking a skilled Instrumentation Technician to join our team. As an Instrumentation Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our manufacturing equipment and processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute and participate in the execution and improvement of plant safety and environmental programs.
  • Provide plant operational support on a cross-functional shift team to support line waste, uptime, and run rate goals.
  • Lead and provide technical expertise on high-level equipment processes and their electrical sub-components.
  • Work together with shift industrial technicians and operation leads to identify and troubleshoot process issues.
  • Support and participate in line operation and quality tests when needed.
  • Excel in radio/face-to-face communication and larger audience communication through computer applications.
  • Perform planned work on a shift basis, prioritizing tasks and line calls.
  • Identify parts needed for electrical maintenance and repair projects and withdraw them from the parts room.
  • Perform electrical repairs on various types of electrical equipment per standard work plans and manuals.
  • Select, install, configure, and calibrate instruments and devices.
  • Test equipment for safety and efficiency.
  • Program new plant equipment or modify existing programs as directed.
  • Train plant personnel on new systems and update LOTO and SOP information.
  • Operate various shop equipment to install/program equipment.
  • Use electrical hand tools, voltage and amperage measuring and recording devices, HART communicators, and other technical equipment.
  • Bend, hang, and run conduit where needed.
  • Pull electrical cable and wire in conduit.
  • Transport and stack conduit and electrical wire as needed.
  • Work with all plant personnel on continuous improvement of plant equipment, documentation, and processes.
  • Execute training, self-based or guided, on time to continually improve skills.
  • Execute and take ownership in plant 5S programs and housekeeping.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience with a high school diploma or GED, or minimum of 3 years of professional experience with an associate degree.
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience with process control and troubleshooting.
  • Experience in roofing manufacturing or web process handling or other processes that integrate multiple pieces of equipment.
  • Siemens and Allen Bradley PLC experience.
  • NEC and Electrical Distribution Knowledge and Experience.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
  • Work duties will be divided between an office environment and the production floor.
  • Employee will be required to wear all plant-mandatory PPE when on production floor, including hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots, ear protection.
  • Safety is a Top Priority - Employee is responsible not only for his/her safety but also for the safety of peers.
  • Production facility is a 24/7 operation, and as such, the role may require occasional extended-hour days to aide in troubleshooting, project implementation, and/or training.
  • Production facility is prone to temperature fluctuations according to ambient seasonal changes.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to position himself/herself to operate, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and/or maintain heavy plant equipment.
  • The employee must be able to inspect equipment and detect equipment malfunctions, as well as utilize tools to repair and maintain equipment.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • This job is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes, odors, or airborne particles.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, extreme heat, vibration, and confined spaces.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to acidic or caustic chemicals.
  • A respirator may be required at times.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, with hearing protection provided.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to moving mechanical systems and around/near energized electrical systems while following necessary safety procedures and wearing appropriate PPE.
