Job Summary

The Instrument Sharpening Technician II is responsible for the installation, repair, maintenance, and calibration of surgical instruments at the component level. This role requires a high level of technical expertise and attention to detail to ensure the proper operation and function of these critical medical devices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform installations, regular maintenance, repairs, and calibrations on assigned surgical instruments to ensure proper operation and function.
  • Monitor the work of outside instrument sharpening vendors to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Establish equipment baselines, perform inspections and evaluations, interpret test results, and make recommendations to solve performance deficiencies.
  • Install, repair, and calibrate most classes of surgical instruments at a component level.
  • Perform planned maintenance and electrical safety inspections as assigned.
  • Use diagnostic service software appropriate to the equipment being serviced.
  • Help in the evaluation of new equipment, accessories, and supplies.
  • Inspect incoming equipment for compliance with codes, standards, and manufacturer's instructions.
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree in biomedical equipment technology or electronics or equivalent experience required.
  • 4+ years' experience in Instrument Sharpening industry.
  • Has and maintains a safe driving record.
  • Solid knowledge of computerized systems: recordkeeping, PM, work order systems, timekeeping, etc.
  • Exceptional technical, mechanical, data-based, and problem-solving skills.
  • Physically able to reach, raise, work atop, move along the ground, or see and work in tight and/or dim places.
  • Able to interact and communicate with all staff and management in a positive and professional way.
  • Able to read and follow instructions.
  • Able to deal with difficult situations, resolve issues, and concerns in a professional way.
  • Able to work and accomplish tasks in a stressful, fast-paced environment.
