Job Summary

The Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) is seeking a highly skilled Senior Attorney to join our Litigation and Human Resources Bureau. As a key member of our team, you will provide critical legal guidance and support to our service network, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate lawsuits and claims, as well as CPLR Article 78 proceedings, against the agency and support the Attorney General's Office in its defense.
  • Issue litigation holds to preserve evidence and assist the Attorney General's Office with discovery, depositions, and trial arrangements.
  • Provide advice and assistance to the Attorney General's Office and staff on issues related to individuals who are involuntarily committed to OPWDD care or under OPWDD supervision.
  • Represent the agency in Family Court when OPWDD is required to appear, evaluate, and find placement for the individual.
  • Review incidents for potential litigation matters and take steps to preserve records.
  • Provide advice to Counsel's Office attorneys and agency employees on litigation issues.
Requirements

To be eligible for this position, you must be reachable for appointment on the Current Civil Service Eligible List for this title or have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/c status in the posted title and be eligible for lateral transfer.
