Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles as a Senior Attorney/Assistant Counsel. As a key member of the Counsel's Office, you will be responsible for providing legal advice and guidance to the agency on a wide range of matters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Attorney General's Office in litigation involving DMV in both State and federal courts
  • Defend the agency in discrimination cases
  • Appear on behalf of DMV in various proceedings and hearings
  • Draft and interpret legislation and regulations
  • Assist in procurements
  • Draft and review contracts, MOUs, IFBs and RFPs
  • Research legal issues and provide legal analysis
  • Advise agency business units on legal matters
Requirements
  • Must have at least three years' experience as a New York State Attorney
  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Eager to learn new subject areas
  • Demonstrated sound judgment
  • Excellent oral communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in public service
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
