Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Bus Mechanic to join our team at WMATA. As a Bus Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on our fleet of buses, ensuring they are safe and reliable for our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake pad replacements
  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical issues with buses, including engine, transmission, and electrical systems
  • Conduct safety inspections and ensure all vehicles meet regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with other maintenance teams to ensure efficient and effective maintenance operations
  • Stay up-to-date with manufacturer recommendations and industry best practices
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in heavy vehicle maintenance or repair; ASE certification a plus
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in a physically demanding environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • ASE certification in multiple areas, such as brakes, electrical systems, and engine repair
  • Experience with heavy vehicle diagnostic equipment and software
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures
