Database Platform Engineer

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Platform Engineer with a passion for automation to join our talented IT team at M&T Bank. In this position, you will play a crucial role in modernizing our Database platform offerings and spearheading transformation efforts in collaboration with our App Dev partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for automation and efficiency improvement across the organization.
  • Design, implement, and maintain database systems to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Develop and implement automation solutions for database deployment, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance tasks.
  • Collaborate with internal tech teams to identify opportunities to mature the bank's database ecosystem.
  • Participate in the bank's DB COE as a SQL DB and provide subject matter expertise to the bank's database community.
  • Perform regular database performance tuning and optimization to meet business requirements and SLAs.
  • Troubleshoot database-related issues and implement solutions in a timely manner.
  • Establish and enforce database policies and procedures.
  • Mentor junior team members and provide guidance on best practices for database administration and automation.

Requirements:

  • Associate's degree and 6 years' RDBMS experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 8 years' higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 6 years' RDBMS experience.
  • Proficiency in SQL/Oracle, experience with relational database management systems (e.g., MySQL, SQL Server).
  • Hands-on experience with database automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell).
  • Experience delivering in an Agile methodology, SAFe preferred but not required.
  • Experience with cloud database platforms preferred, but not required (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database).
