Role Summary:

The Experimentation and Wargaming Specialist will spearhead and support initiatives within NATO's Allied Command Transformation (ACT) aimed at bolstering NATO's warfare development capabilities through comprehensive experimentation and innovative wargaming methodologies. This role encompasses the design, execution, and evaluation of experiments and wargames that are vital for NATO's strategic superiority across various domains.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Wargame Development and Implementation: Direct the design, planning, and execution of wargames, utilizing both digital and physical formats. These efforts are crucial for assessing new concepts, capabilities, and strategies that guide decision-making at multiple levels of NATO command.
  • Experimentation Oversight: Oversee and coordinate extensive experimentation programs focused on validating new operational concepts, pinpointing vulnerabilities, and exploring innovative solutions that strengthen NATO's defense posture.
  • Collaborative Engagement: Collaborate closely with stakeholders across NATO, including military commands, national agencies, and academic institutions, to promote teamwork and share best practices in wargaming and experimentation.
  • Doctrine Formulation: Contribute to the formulation of NATO's wargaming and experimentation doctrine and policy, ensuring alignment with the Alliance's strategic objectives and effective integration into NATO's broader operational framework.
  • Education and Training: Create and deliver wargaming education programs, including practitioner-level courses and online training modules, to enhance capacity within NATO and its member states. This includes the development and updating of the NATO Wargaming Handbook.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Employ advanced data analytics to improve the realism and effectiveness of wargames, providing comprehensive reports and insights that inform NATO's strategic and operational planning.
Qualifications:
  • Education: A bachelor's or master's degree in operations research, military science, strategic studies, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in wargaming, military modeling and simulation, or related fields. Experience within a NATO or multinational military context is highly preferred.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expertise in wargaming software, data analytics tools, and simulation platforms. Familiarity with NATO's operational and strategic planning processes is essential.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and project management abilities. Capacity to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment, with a focus on innovation and problem-solving.
  • Security Clearance: A current SECRET security clearance is mandatory.
