Water Resources Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Water Resources Engineer to join our team at Weston & Sampson. As a Water Resources Engineer, you will play a critical role in developing innovative solutions for complex water management projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop construction documents, including drawings and specifications, for dam rehabilitations/removals, stream crossings, waterfront projects, and stormwater systems.
  • Apply hydrologic, hydraulic, and water quality modeling software to support projects including dam rehabilitations/removals, resiliency plans, and municipal watershed plans.
  • Support watershed planning, MS4 program compliance, and water quality investigations.
  • Assist with RFQ/RFP responses and interviews to help secure new work.
  • Collaborate internally with resilience planners, environmental engineers, engagement specialists, and other disciplines to deliver transformative projects that promote equity, health, and wellness, and sustainability.
  • Attend and present at conferences and represent the company publicly.
  • Think like an owner: as an ESOP and company owner yourself, make informed decisions in the best interest of all WSE's employee owners.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's in Agricultural/Biosystems, Civil, or Environmental Engineering (Required).
  • Master's in Agricultural/Biosystems, Civil, or Environmental Engineering (Preferred).
  • 5-8 years' experience in a related position (Preferred).
  • North Carolina PE (Required).
  • Operating knowledge and proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and ESRI GIS (Required).
  • Experience in MicroStation V8i or Open Roads a plus (Preferred).
  • Strong writing skills related to scope development, technical approaches, emails, and reports.
  • Relationships: State/local municipal clients and partner consulting firms.
  • Strong communication skills related to explaining complex ideas in a simple, easy-to-understand manner, schedule/task management; coordination with several internal and external team members; client engagement and management, cross-selling and securing work, constructive feedback, and celebrating success.
  • Ability to effectively and simultaneously manage multiple projects, on-time and on-budget.
  • Must be able to travel regionally as necessary for project meetings and site visits.
