Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to join our team at the City of Escondido, CA. As a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining a variety of facilities, systems, and equipment involved in the wastewater treatment process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain a variety of facilities, systems, and equipment involved in the wastewater treatment process.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment and facilities.
  • Collect and analyze samples from various plant processes.
  • Monitor and adjust plant processes to ensure optimal treatment and minimize environmental impact.
  • Perform mathematical calculations and recordkeeping duties.
  • Respond to emergency situations and perform duties in response to power outage emergencies and wet weather emergencies.
Requirements
  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college level course work or trade school training in wastewater treatment technology.
  • One year (full-time equivalent) of experience in the operation, repair, and maintenance of machinery, pumps, or mechanical equipment, including one year (full-time equivalent) of experience in a wastewater treatment plant.
  • Possession of a Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board.
  • Possession of a valid Class C driver's license.
Working Conditions

The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to chemicals, noise, and physical demands. The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with regular communication with supervisors and other plant personnel.
