Job Title:

Child Welfare Specialist - Intake

Job Summary:

The Intake Specialist is responsible for processing new children brought into the agency for servicing. This includes obtaining required documentation, completing home visits, and ensuring the initial placement meets the agency's criteria. The specialist will interact with various parties, including the child, caregivers, biological parents, and MDHHS. This position requires coordination and performance of multiple tasks with short timeframes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and perform multiple tasks related to providing client services within short timeframes.
  • Process new children brought into the agency for servicing, including obtaining required documentation and completing home visits.
  • Ensure the initial placement meets the agency's criteria.
  • Interact with various parties, including the child, caregivers, biological parents, and MDHHS.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, their families, foster care parents, and department team members.
  • Manage case documentation and ensure timely transfer of cases to assigned Foster Care Workers and Supervisors.

Requirements:

  • At least one year of experience in foster care or a related child welfare position.
  • PSI and DCWL training preferred.
  • Reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and automobile insurance.
  • Knowledge of social problems and concerns common to the target group.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, their families, foster care parents, and department team members.
  • Basic computer skills related to Windows navigation, Microsoft Office, and general office equipment.
  • Ability to navigate various databases, including MISACWIS, CCWIS, and ENOBLE.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Science, Community Services, Counseling (Psychology), Criminal Justice (Administration), Early Childhood Studies, Family Ecology, Family Life Education, Family Studies, Family and/or Child Development, Guidance/School Counseling, Human Development and Family Studies, Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, or Sociology.
