About the Role

As a Peer Support Specialist in our Specialized Child and Youth Program (SCYP), you'll play a vital role in supporting children, youth, and families in foster care, adoption, and the juvenile justice system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist families and youth in identifying and building on their strengths to increase family stability and well-being.
  • Collaborate with child-serving and family organizations to provide trauma-informed support and connect families with community resources.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with foster care and adoptive alumni groups to provide ongoing support and guidance.
  • Work with the SCYP Program Manager and clinical team to implement care coordination and peer support services.
  • Provide education and support to families on trauma-informed care, life skills, and transitional living.
  • Advocate on behalf of youth and families to ensure their needs are met and their voices are heard.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1+ year of experience working with the child welfare system, either as a former foster child or youth, or as a current/former foster parent.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Access to reliable transportation and ability to travel up to 75% of the time within a 60-mile radius of the greater Detroit, MI area.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Working knowledge of community resources and services.
