The Special Projects Division within our Rapid Solutions group operates with the agility of a small business while leveraging the resources of a larger organization. We are currently seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to join our Mechanical Engineering team as a Senior Electronics Packaging Engineer. This role involves applying your engineering expertise in 3D CAD design, GD&T, thermal management, manufacturability considerations, structural analysis, composite materials, and other engineering principles to various electronics packaging initiatives that support the Intelligence community. The designed systems must endure challenging conditions encountered in aviation, maritime, and automotive environments worldwide, including extreme temperatures, thermal shocks, vibrations, structural impacts, moisture, and corrosion.

  • The Mechanical Engineering team is a high-performing group with extensive experience in mechanical design, electronics manufacturing, and thermal analysis.
  • The Senior Electronics Packaging Engineer will engage in various responsibilities, including:
  • 3D CAD (Solidworks) design and drafting of mechanical and electro-mechanical components with an emphasis on reliability and ruggedization.
  • Conducting engineering analyses, including thermal and structural evaluations.
  • Recommending and developing new engineering or manufacturing processes to enhance existing practices.
  • Communicating technical progress to stakeholders while promoting a collaborative atmosphere.
  • Participating in engineering and product design reviews.
  • Estimating engineering work for ongoing projects and proposals.
  • Planning and executing thermal testing to validate designs.
  • Fabricating and qualifying first-article engineering prototypes.
  • Designing and conducting experiments to assess material choices and advanced manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborating effectively across engineering disciplines to achieve project objectives.
  • Developing qualification plans for requirements and workmanship verification.
  • Identifying technical risks and proposing mitigation strategies with the project team.
  • Researching and evaluating potential vendors, serving as the primary technical liaison.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, or a related field from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • 8 to 12 years of experience in mechanical packaging of electronic components or systems.
  • Expertise in thermal design for electronic systems, including material selection for heat sinks and thermal interface materials.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in designing for electronics manufacturing processes.
  • Proficient in PCB layouts or providing guidance for electro-mechanical design.
  • Familiarity with various electronics manufacturing processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of the electronics product development lifecycle.
  • Experience in leading multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Effective time management and prioritization abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree focusing on Electronics Packaging, Microelectronics, or Electronics Process Development.
  • Experience in designing for microelectronics manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with process mapping.
  • Experience in selecting cable terminations and connectors.
  • Knowledge of wire routing and harness design.
  • Experience in machine design and drafting.
  • Familiarity with robotics design and controls.
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing processes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in mentoring junior engineering staff.
