The Role:

As the Director of Policy and Advocacy, you will play a crucial role in crafting and implementing strategic advocacy initiatives aimed at effecting policy change and furthering our mission and objectives. We seek an individual with a robust background in policy analysis, advocacy strategy formulation, and stakeholder engagement. If you are a proactive leader with outstanding communication abilities, a talent for fostering partnerships, and a profound commitment to community empowerment and equity, this position offers a chance to be at the forefront of impactful change in our community.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Formulate and implement strategic advocacy plans to promote our policy priorities and legislative agenda across local, state, and national levels.
  • Conduct comprehensive policy analysis and research on critical issues impacting our mission and target demographics, providing actionable insights.
  • Stay informed on legislative and regulatory changes, monitor policy proposals, and evaluate their potential effects on our organization and stakeholders.
  • Build and sustain relationships with policymakers, government representatives, and other stakeholders, advocating for policy reforms and representing our interests in discussions and decision-making processes.
  • Lead coalition-building initiatives, collaborating with other organizations, advocacy groups, and community leaders to enhance our collective influence on policy outcomes.
  • Encourage community involvement in policy discussions and advocacy efforts, championing policies that foster equity, justice, and opportunities for all residents.
  • Design and implement grassroots advocacy campaigns, mobilizing supporters and engaging them in actions such as contacting elected officials and participating in public forums.
  • Work alongside communications and outreach teams to create advocacy materials and inform stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to policy and advocacy staff and volunteers, establishing objectives, offering guidance, and assessing performance.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of our policy and advocacy initiatives, tracking outcomes and assessing the success of our strategies.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in public policy, political science, law, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in policy analysis, advocacy, or government relations, with a proven history of successful advocacy efforts and policy achievements, including 3 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Strong grasp of the legislative process, government institutions, and policy-making mechanisms at all levels.
  • Exceptional analytical and research capabilities, with the ability to dissect complex policy issues, synthesize information, and formulate actionable recommendations.
  • Proven ability to cultivate and maintain effective relationships with policymakers, government officials, advocacy organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to convey complex policy issues clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences.
  • Strong leadership and team-building abilities, with the capacity to inspire and motivate staff, partners, and supporters.
  • Awareness of local community dynamics and cultural sensitivity.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and advocacy tools such as online advocacy platforms, voter engagement tools, and legislative tracking systems.
  • Dedication to our mission and values, with a passion for social change and a deep commitment to advancing equity and justice through policy advocacy.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Flexibility, independence, and an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Current and valid driver's license.

Working Conditions:

The individual in this role must be available to attend meetings during evenings and weekends as necessary.
