The role of Utilities Systems Engineer, Cell & Gene Therapy is pivotal in supporting our operations by ensuring that our facilities and equipment are optimally designed and functioning to fulfill the stringent requirements of biopharmaceutical production. The projects undertaken in this role can vary significantly in scope and complexity, focusing on the operation and enhancement of Utilities and HVAC systems, as well as modifications to existing setups.

Key projects may address various business needs, including but not limited to:

  • Enhancements in process efficiency
  • Increased production capacity
  • Technical transfer of new client processes
  • Projects driven by regulatory inspections
  • Environmental, Health, and Safety initiatives
  • Replacement of outdated equipment
  • Energy efficiency and sustainability efforts

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Acquire in-depth technical knowledge of Utilities and HVAC systems
  • Oversee the resolution of significant equipment failures and quality challenges
  • Provide subject matter expertise to Utilities and other departments regarding the design and operation of Utilities and HVAC systems
  • Conduct troubleshooting and technical evaluations on Utilities and HVAC systems, including data analyses and capacity assessments
  • Assist in the technical transfer of new processes into our facilities
  • Develop and modify preventative maintenance strategies and spare parts inventory
  • Complete assessments for change requests to facilitate lot release
  • Engage in cross-functional team meetings as an engineering expert
  • Represent the engineering group in departmental meetings
  • Participate in audits and inspections as a subject matter expert
  • Define and prioritize capital projects involving complex equipment modifications and process enhancements
  • Implement commissioning protocols for installation and operation
  • Manage change requests and associated tasks to ensure project completion
  • The level of this position will be determined by the candidate's experience.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in a Utilities-focused engineering capacity
  • Preferred fields of study include Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • Extensive experience within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
  • PMP certification is advantageous
  • Experience in the design and operation of biopharmaceutical facilities, including both manufacturing and support systems
  • Familiarity with control systems (PLC, DCS, Loop controllers) is desirable
  • Proven project management and coordination experience related to capital project execution in an industrial setting
  • Hands-on experience managing engineering and construction consultants, equipment vendors, and contractors
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Project
  • Preferred proficiency with OSI PI
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders
  • Project management capabilities, including budgeting, scheduling, and compliance with quality and safety standards
  • Exceptional problem-solving, decision-making, and attention to detail skills
