Job Summary

As a General Laborer at UIC Alaska, you will play a vital role in the success of our construction projects. Your primary responsibilities will include performing physical labor at construction sites, cleaning and preparing sites, digging trenches, setting braces to support the sides of excavations, erecting scaffolding, and performing demolition activities. You will also be responsible for identifying and loading/offloading building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations. Additionally, you may operate hand and power tools of all types, including air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, measuring equipment, and other equipment and instruments. Your ability to work safely and follow all company policies is essential to your success in this role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
  • Erect or dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, or other temporary structures.
  • Load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations.
  • Measure, mark, or record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed.
  • Tend pumps, compressors, or generators to provide power for tools, machinery, or equipment or to heat or move materials.
  • Mix, pour, or spread concrete, using portable cement mixers.
  • Control traffic passing near, in, or around work zones.
  • Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, or rakes.

Requirements
  • 1 year of general labor experience.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 50lbs to 100lbs on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 20lbs on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to bend, squat, crouch, crawl, and kneel.
  • Ability to climb in a safe manner.
  • Ability to perform prolonged standing (2-3 hour intervals).
  • Ability to work at a variety of levels.
  • Ability to utilize personal protective equipment safely per OSHA standards.
  • Ability to respond to verbal and audible sounds/commands.
  • Ability to utilize adequate visual skills.
