About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Nuclear Design Engineer II to join our team at Westinghouse Electric Company. As a key member of our innovative team, you will have the opportunity to work on advanced reactor systems in design and testing, with responsibilities in research, development, and design of our microreactor applications in commercial, defense, industrial, sea, and space applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform nuclear and mechanical design of reactor core, nuclear components, and radiation shielding through 3D modeling and analysis software.
  • Conduct reactor engineering design and analysis calculations related to neutronics, thermal-hydraulics, or radiation for steady-state and transient conditions.
  • Evaluate different phases of the nuclear fuel lifecycle from enrichment through decommissioning, as well as criticality safety from fabrication, transport, operation, and post-operation.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of international and domestic safeguards and non-proliferation strategies.
  • Familiarity with NRC, DOE, CNSC, or IAEA regulations for nuclear design and accident analyses.
  • Collaborate with an integrated team of engineers and designers to identify and define technical issues and challenges, and direct efforts to successful resolution.
Requirements
  • Minimum 1 year of working experience or advanced degree (Master's or PhD).
  • Bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, or physics.
  • Preferable internship, co-op, or university laboratory experience in nuclear or radiation field.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance.
  • Basic experience with analysis codes such as ANSYS, SERPENT, GRIFFIN, MCNP, SCALE, or equivalents.
  • Strong computer skills, proficiency in using LINUX, and proficiency in computer programming/coding.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and teamwork skills and experience.
