Overview
Job Summary

This position oversees and manages the operations of the Variety Department by comprehensively understanding related areas. You will supervise department staff, plan and procure merchandise, and ensure high standards of customer service, product quality, freshness, and selection.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

- Supervise team members by motivating, training, participating in hiring processes, monitoring performance, and recommending personnel actions (such as hiring, termination, disciplinary measures, and scheduling based on coverage needs) while maintaining a safe and secure work environment.

- Foster an atmosphere of prompt, friendly, and courteous customer service.

- Engage in customer relations and employ suggestive selling techniques.

- Achieve departmental sales and gross margin targets.


- Ensure product availability, quality, and freshness by checking, receiving, and managing inventory, preventing the sale of outdated items, calculating gross profit, processing administrative paperwork via computer, and maintaining accurate departmental records.

- Organize promotional displays and seasonal arrangements.

- Prepare the store for daily operations by facing shelves, cleaning, organizing, and restocking.

- Perform additional duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:
- Previous experience as a freight stocker, Variety Clerk, Lead Clerk, MIT, or equivalent is essential to grasp the procedures of the Variety Department.


- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail to effectively monitor progress and complete tasks efficiently and accurately.

- Demonstrated initiative and self-direction to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and the ability to compute weights and measures.

- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain good relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and suppliers.

- Basic proficiency in Microsoft operating systems in a workplace setting.

Ability to:
- Conduct visual inspections and interpret reports, manuals, etc.

- Accurately forecast based on demand, historical sales, and expectations.

- Frequently bend, repetitively use hands, stand, walk, and lift.

- Perform duties with mental alertness while considering potential hazards related to procedures, equipment (e.g., knives), and work aids.

Additional Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old.

Machines and Equipment Operated:
- Office machines (computer terminal, copier/scanner, 10-key, fax machine, telephone, etc.).

- Forklift, Electric Pallet Jack, Push Carts.

- Box Knife.
