Job Summary

Metrology Technician II, Linear Dimensional, is responsible for the calibration and certification of electronic and physical/dimensional measuring and test equipment to technical specifications, maintaining traceability to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform calibration and certification of electronic and physical/dimensional measuring and test equipment.
  • Maintain traceability to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
  • Perform complex configuration and testing of equipment according to instructions, blueprints, schematic sketches, and/or prescribed testing procedures.
  • Make reports on electronic or instrumentation system conditions, repairs, and preventive maintenance performed.
  • Use all hand tools and set up and use standard machine tools.
  • Use common laboratory measuring, calibrating, and test equipment.
  • Perform troubleshooting in conjunction with design modification functions involved in production or engineering liaison.
  • Make design modification or devise and design equipment parts.
  • Provide guidance regarding equipment operation to customers and equipment operators.
  • Resolve group and customer issues, seek to improve the overall productivity of the department, anticipate problems, and initiate appropriate actions to eliminate them.
  • Perform complex maintenance and repair work on equipment.
  • Inspect defective electronic equipment to determine malfunction.
  • Read and interpret schematic diagrams, logic charts, drawings, and sketches, and manufacturers' manuals.
  • Use computer diagnostics to isolate the area of malfunction.
  • Interface digital equipment with the computer and program equipment and diagnostics functions.
  • Provide advanced technical/electronic and instrumentation equipment repair work, troubleshooting, modifying, testing, calibrating, adjusting, repairing, and installing electronic, digital, and analog equipment and monitoring devices.
  • Perform work safely, in-compliant to HS&E requirements, and take actions to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Interact effectively with others to produce the desired results.
  • Participate constructively in the utilization of process improvement methods to provide timely, cost-effective, quality services.
  • Perform routine operational tests to assure the modification produces desired outputs.
  • Evaluate environments in which equipment is to be installed and how electronic equipment will be affected.
  • Maintain records of test data and assist in writing test procedures and test evaluation reports.
  • Apply advanced skills in the area of specialization.
  • Serve as a lead resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues.
  • May orient, train, assign, and check the work of lower-level employees.
  • May adapt procedures, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment appropriate to meet special needs.
  • Provide activity and status reports to management.
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for assigned customer groups.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma with a minimum of 4 years' experience or associate degree with 3 years' experience in a relevant field.
  • U.S. Citizenship Status required due to client requirements.
  • Military PMEL/TMDE training preferred.
  • Preferred experience in dimensional calibration to include gage blocks, calipers, micrometers, thread plug gages, ring gages, and GD&T.
  • Fluke Met/Team, Fluke Met/Track, and Met/Cal experience a plus.
  • Previous customer service experience is a plus.
