Job Summary

The Security Police Officer (SPO) is a critical role within Chenega Corporation, responsible for ensuring the safety and security of NASA installations and personnel. As an armed law enforcement specialist, the SPO will be required to respond to emergencies, enforce federal and state laws, and conduct patrols, inspections, and searches.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to emergencies and incidents in a timely and effective manner
  • Enforce federal and state laws, as well as NASA regulations and policies
  • Conduct mobile patrols, inspections, and searches to ensure the security of NASA installations and personnel
  • Initiate arrests and transport individuals, as necessary
  • Perform protective service work, including guarding NASA-owned or leased buildings and property
  • Protect NASA equipment and material, and control access to installations by employees, visitors, and residents
  • Participate in Guard Mount, receive assigned posts, and copy extra instructions
  • Carry out general and special orders for assigned posts
  • Communicate via radio, telephone, and orally, as required
  • Interact and escort public and government personnel, as necessary
  • Provide access control, traffic control, and conduct walking and motorized armed security functions
  • Responsible for cleanliness of uniform and equipment assigned
  • Follow applicable standard operating procedures and NASA regulations pertaining to security of weapons, buildings, personnel, NASA property, and equipment
  • Conduct personnel, vehicular, building, and facility checks, and package and parcel inspections
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed
  • Required to report and remain available for emergency duty, in expectation of a declared emergency
Qualifications
  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Preferred minimum of 2 years of military law enforcement or 1-year armed security officer or NASA SPO experience
  • Honorably discharged (if applicable)
  • NASA Basic Training Standard (NBTS) required prior to appointment
  • Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS-100) training required prior to appointment
  • ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents (ICS-200) training required prior to appointment
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) (IS-700) training required prior to appointment
  • First Aid/CPR Certified or BLS certified, per contract and PWS requirements
  • Must be able to possess and maintain a valid state driver's license
  • Must be able to obtain a DoD security clearance, but not required to start
  • Must be able to meet drug testing and alcohol-free workforce requirements, including random drug and/or alcohol testing
  • Must speak, read, write concisely, and understand the English language, apply written rules, detailed orders, instructions, and training material
  • Have no record or history of illegal drug use, sale, possession, or manufacture
  • Have no felony convictions and no convictions that reflect on the individual's reliability, including those crimes classified under the Lautenberg Act
  • Must be able to maintain and qualify periodically on a course of fire with handgun, or other special weapons
  • Required to adhere to all government agency guidelines as it applies to COVID vaccine Attestation/Restrictions
  • Must be able to meet and maintain NASA Physical Certifications and complete a Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory -2 (MMPI-2) and Shipley Institute of Living Scale psychological examinations
  • In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire
  • Must successfully complete the Initial Physical Agility Test (IPAT)
