Job Title: Correctional Officer

Martin County MN is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Correctional Officer to join our team. As a Correctional Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of inmates, staff, and the public.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process inmates in and out of the jail, maintain custody and care of all inmates and their possessions.
  • Transport inmates to the courtroom, doctor's office, and other locations as required.
  • Complete all necessary logs, records, and reports pertaining to the booking, care, and release of inmates.
  • Inspect all incoming packages and gifts, transfer phone calls, and feed inmates.
  • Initiate searches for contraband and obtain specimens for drug testing of inmates.
  • Distribute and document medications to inmates.
  • Receive and log department communications.
  • Perform minor maintenance of grounds and buildings.
  • Perform various duties related to Electronic Home Monitoring functions as required.
Requirements:
  • Specialized training beyond high school, but less than an associate's degree.
  • Less than one year of progressive experience in a related field, along with the skills, knowledge, and abilities required.
  • Valid Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of modern jail operation techniques.
  • Familiarity with court rulings relevant to handling of inmates' rights.
  • Ability to deal with inmates firmly, fairly, and objectively.
  • Ability to receive direction and supervision from supervisors.
Working Conditions:

The position has good working conditions in general but is a diversified job requiring sustained mental effort related to public contacts, organizational issues, planning, and technical areas. The individual may encounter moderate to severe emotional strain or tension.

The position requires moderate to frequent exposure to public contact, sitting, and occasional exposure to serious injury when responsible for arresting or physically restraining disruptive, unruly, or dangerous people and to health hazards based on contact with individuals having communicable diseases.
