Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team at Kaiser Permanente in Washington D.C. As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will play a critical role in performing ultrasound examinations of patients as requested by referring physicians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greet patients, explain the ultrasound procedure, and answer questions to ensure a comfortable and informed experience.
  • Select the appropriate ultrasound machine and probe to obtain diagnostic information requested by the referring physician.
  • Apply gel to the patient's skin, apply the probe, and monitor equipment to obtain high-quality ultrasound images.
  • Process film and review images to confirm that they meet the radiologist's requirements.
  • Prepare initial diagnoses by identifying abnormal conditions for review by the radiologist.
  • Use ultrasound equipment to assist providers in conducting invasive procedures.
  • Maintain equipment and examination rooms, store film, and manage inventory of related supplies.
  • Prepare patient information files with patient identification, date of exam, referring physician, and exam performed.
  • Prepare and submit reports showing the number and type of examinations conducted.
Requirements
  • Minimum one year of experience as a sonographer, including on-the-job training and internships.
  • Completion of an ARDMS-accredited or equivalent program in ultrasound technology.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Ob-Gyn within 12 months of hire OR Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Abdomen within 12 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications such as breast or RVT preferred.
