Main OR - Our state-of-the-art 17-suite operating room encompasses a diverse range of specialties, including Robotics, Kidney Transplants, Trauma, and more. We are dedicated to delivering exceptional care to both elective and urgent patients across all age groups. This role offers the chance to collaborate with esteemed surgeons and anesthesiologists from various regions.
What to Expect as a Professional Staff Nurse:
The Professional Staff Nurse is responsible for delivering highly skilled patient care while showcasing empathy and a commitment to continuous learning. This role necessitates independent decision-making, effective communication, and collaborative partnerships with physicians, care providers, patients, and their families to achieve optimal patient outcomes throughout the care continuum.
As a Professional Staff Nurse and integral member of the care delivery team, you will set the benchmark for the quality of nursing care, holding authority and accountability for its delivery. You will consistently demonstrate a dedication to the community and the nursing profession.

Shifts/Hours: Our RNs operate on a rotating 10- or 12-hour schedule to ensure comprehensive coverage.
Graduate Nurses must be eligible for State Board Licensure and successfully pass the examination before commencing this role or have the ability to start with TPP. Applicants will be assigned the appropriate job title and salary based on their individual experience and education.
- Candidates must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and interact appropriately with patients of all ages.
- Understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan is essential, along with the ability to assess data reflective of patient status and identify specific care needs.
- A BSN is preferred.
- Ability to cultivate and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, and patients/families.
- Capability to work effectively in a complex environment, managing multiple priorities and specialized equipment.
- Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills are required for various aspects of patient care.
- Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients is necessary.
- Completion of a UPMC Student Nurse Internship Program or student clinical transitions course at UPMC is preferred.
- Understanding and application of nursing best practices are essential.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- UPMC-approved national certification is preferred.
- Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse is required.
- CPR certification based on AHA standards is required within 30 days of hire.
- ACLS certification is required within one year, and NIH certification within six months.
- Other certifications include Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIH).
- Act 34 clearance is necessary.
