Job Description

The Department of Infectious Diseases and International Health at the University of Virginia is seeking a highly qualified Lead Epidemiologist or Research Data Scientist to join Dr. Kathleen McManus' research team.

Job Summary

As a key member of the research team, the successful candidate will drive HIV care forward by analyzing and interpreting complex data sets. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in epidemiology, data science, or a related field, with at least three years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement data-related initiatives to support research projects and programs.
  2. Analyze and interpret data to identify trends, patterns, and correlations.
  3. Design and program data entry forms, train team members, and oversee data analysis.
  4. Conduct literature searches, design studies, collect and analyze data, and prepare manuscripts and presentations.
  5. Develop and maintain large and complex longitudinal databases.
  6. Collaborate with the Principal Investigator and other data analysts to complete projects on time and within budget.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in epidemiology, public health, data science, or a related field.
  • At least three years of relevant experience.
  • Expertise in R programming language, data visualization, and database management.
  • Strong communication and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise in HIV care, HIV prevention, and health policy.
  • Experience working in a research setting, conducting studies, and collecting and analyzing data.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups and populations.
  • Experience with data visualization tools and statistical software.
