Research Scientist Opportunity

The Desai lab in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our team. As a key member of our research group, you will contribute to our understanding of the mechanisms through which immune cells sense and adapt to rapid changes in the tissue environment during host defense, inflammation, and tissue homeostasis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research in the Desai lab, focusing on the role of ion channels, GPCRs, and calcium signaling in the sensory physiology of different types of tissue-resident macrophages.
  • Develop and implement research projects, including defining ion channel and GPCR-mediated signals controlling cell-intrinsic defense processes, immunometabolism, functional specialization of organ-resident myeloid cells, and neuroimmune crosstalk.
  • Collaborate with the research team to design and execute experiments, analyze data, and draw conclusions.
  • Present research findings at conferences and publish papers in reputable scientific journals.
Requirements
  • PhD in physical or biological sciences with 6 years of productive graduate research experience.
  • Technical expertise in one of the following specialties: analyses of immunological responses, patch clamp electrophysiology, chemical biology, and advanced microscopy techniques.
