About the Role

Dallas College is seeking a skilled Facilities Building Operations Technician to join our team. As a key member of our facilities management department, you will be responsible for performing advanced skilled craftwork in the HVAC trade, supporting the efficient operation of our physical assets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preventative Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance, operate, maintain, and repair HVAC equipment, including boilers, chillers, pumps, air handler units, and cooling towers, ensuring all equipment is working properly and in compliance with established departmental service and maintenance standards.
  • Fire and Smoke Alarm Systems: Inspect fire and smoke alarm systems, make necessary minor adjustments, and recommend major adjustments to supervisors.
  • HVAC System Monitoring and Repair: Read and interpret data from a computerized HVAC/energy management system, charts, gauges, dials, thermostats, adjustments, or repairs to appropriate equipment and instruments.
  • Electrical and Pneumatic Component Repair: Repair and install HVAC electrical and pneumatic components, such as motors, compressors, and heat pumps.
  • Water Analysis and Chemical Treatment: Perform water analysis and chemical treatment, adhering to state/local government regulations to ensure safety and compliance with building codes.
  • Blueprint Reading and Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals in performing repairs and installation activities.
  • Evening Work Orders: Respond to evening work orders that require performing minor repairs to electrical, painting, carpentry, plumbing, etc.
  • Building Operations and Maintenance Services: Provide advanced building operations and maintenance services primarily working in the evening shift.
  • Maintenance and Plumbing Duties: Perform maintenance and plumbing duties.
  • Supply Requisition and Budget Monitoring: Requisition supplies, parts, equipment, and other related items using a web-based procurement system, maintain purchase records, and monitor budget.
  • Professional Development: Complete required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Associate's Degree/trade school certificate in commercial heating, air conditioning, and/or refrigeration, and one year of experience repairing and installing commercial heating, air conditioning/refrigeration and electrical systems and equipment, or graduation from high school or equivalency plus three (3) years of related experience. Official transcripts required.
  • Work Schedule and Travel: Ability to work extended hours beyond the regular 8:00 am to 5:00 pm workday, including nights and weekends. Current and valid Texas driver's license required for offsite travel.
  • Language and Communication: Bilingual preferred.
